HELLENISTIC FRAGMENT OF SILVER MIRROR COVER

Silver-gilt, representation in repoussé technique of Herakles trying to seduce Auge, daughter of the Greek king Aleos. Both naked, bearded Herakles, being drunk, is seated on his lion’s skin with his club next to him, seizing Auge by the neck, while she is trying to escape by defending herself with her left arm.
